Brunch @ Mayfield

For any new visitors to this blog, my contributions to my other blog – thebreakfastblog.ie – are part of the creative project.

The blog has been quiet since June and this post is shorter than usual but I needed to get it done. It’s so easy to get out of the habit. So here it is: a punchy brunch at Mayfield.

This blog too has been a bit quiet and I have to admit that I missed a couple of days. Circumstances and preoccupations. But I’m over them now.

What’s this?

Well, it looks like a mushroom. But it’s actually an avocado pit, carved. Clever, eh?

You take the pit or stone of the avocado, allow it to dry for a few days, peel off the outer skin, divide the pit in two, and carve it. The exposed and cut flesh of the pit oxidises in the air and turns brown and, gradually, as the pit dries out, it takes on a wizened appearance.

I found this fascinating.
