Sometimes I paint reasonably well. Other times I don’t. When I paint something I see in my head or something reasonably simple that I see in front of me, I’m OK. But when I’m trying to be clever or just copying some technique it often goes awry.
So, this evening, I was browsing Pinterest, where I get a lot of inspiration and I came across a tutorial on painting trees in silhouette. The instructor was using acrylic paint and a fan brush. The effect was nice enough and I thought I’d give it a go.
Of course, me being me, I bent the rules a bit. Firstly, I don’t have a fan brush, so I substituted a different type of brush. Secondly, I didn’t use acrylic paint. I used gouache instead. Then, and this was the biggest error, I simply tried to copy what I’d seen in the tutorial rather than trying to visualise something for myself. The results were a bit lame.
No matter.
